Back and forth trips from the northern tip of Doha, relentless drumming, singing and celebrations at the Jassim bin Hamad stadium sidelines, bubbling dispensers at my university — all  synthesized visually through my water bottle.

Just Before samples the rhythms of my spontaneous experiences in Qatar, a space that constantly introduces me to global yet intimate experience continually evolving between local traditions and transient cultures that expats create to build a sense of home and community.

Sonic Jeel is a collaborative lab investigating sound, electronic music, and audiovisual media within the context of Qatar and the Gulf region. The lab celebrates the interplay of the sonic and the graphic toward a new generation of interdisciplinary makers.

Attached are some of my audio-visual creations as part of Sonic Jeel.

50/50 is a 7” vinyl-press album featuring four original tracks—two by Silai Estatira, an anti-disciplinary artist, rapper, musician, writer, and activist; and two by Giovanni Innellai (Dr. G), an author, researcher, and educator whose work explores politics, economics, and culture through exhibitions, publications, and rap. Although both artists hail from different parts of the globe, both have been creatively active in Doha, Qatar.

Produced by Michael Hersrud, Simone Muscolino, and me, the project blends global narratives through rap and poetry with experimental sonics from Qatar and the wider region.
